Go Dog GoPosted on December 01, 2003 by Steve Bowman ![]() Have you ever noticed in a Greyhound race the dog never catches the rabbit at the end of the race? A new event in the Super Retriever Series presented by Natural Life Pet Products could teach Greyhounds a thing or two about finishing a race in the right way. This new event is the Super Retriever Series Speed Retrieve. Move over NASCAR, here comes canine drag racing and as the title implies it is all about finding the fastest retriever in the world. Speed Retrieve will debut at the New Orleans Super Retriever Series event with the start and finish line located at the Natural Life Pet Products booth. It works like this. Interested racers enter their dogs for $10. The dog and handler teams will then be randomly seeded and will race in a bracket format to find the fastest dogs. The race will take place in a two-lane track separated by a black divider. Handlers and dogs will stand at the starting line and a retrieving dummy will be dropped in each lane 80 yards away. The dog that retrieves the dummy and gets back to its handler in the quickest amount of time wins the race and a year's supply of Natural Life dog food. A Greyhound could only be so lucky. Interested racers can enter at noon on Friday, Nov. 5 and at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6 at the Bonnet Carre Spillway in Norco, La. Registration will be held at the Natural Life tent in the Tailgate Party section of the event. The field for the Speed Retrieve will be limited to the first 50 dogs. Admission to the Tailgate Party is free and dogs are welcome. The Super Retriever Series presented by Natural Life is supported by some of the finest dog and hunting companies in America, including Sportdog, Mack's Prairie Wings and Natural Life Pet Products. The Super Retriever Series is owned and operated by JM Associates. All Super Retriever Series programs will be broadcast on ESPN2. |
